The Driving Arcana Wheel 4 Kickstarter

We are very excited (and a little frightened, but mostly excited) to be launching our fourth Kickstarter campaign this Fall: Driving Arcana 4: The Sound of Wings

The campaign is currently in pre-production, with a planned launch date of November 22 (that’s the Sunday before Thanksgiving) and a main run through December 21 (the Monday before Christmas). Mark your calendars! Or, better yet, sign up for the Heliopause Newsletter! It’s fast, free, and subscribers will be the first to know when the campaign launches (and won’t be bothered otherwise unless there’s really exciting news to share).

New to Driving Arcana? No worries! Get caught up on the Driving Arcana page or read on:

What do you do when the supernatural world crashes, horribly and violently, into yours? If you’re Jill Hamilton, you hire yourself a couple of hard-bitten, demon-hunting, monster-killing bodyguards, get in your dead boyfriend’s giant truck, and you go out and study it.

Welcome to the saga of Driving Arcana, the tale of three women on a mission to catch unicorns, talk to vampires, and understand the impossible—and maybe kill some monsters on the way—for science, justice, and the fight against evil.

The saga so far…

Wheel 1: Spokes 1-9
Wheel 2: Spokes 10-18
Wheel 3: Spokes 19-27

And now:

[preliminary title page: not the final cover]

Jill Hamilton and her team at the Moonshield Center for Supernatural Investigation and Research have done a lot.

They have scientifically documented the existence of ghosts, vampires, werewolves, mermaids, and angels. They have helped a young girl reconcile with her ancient, magical lineage. They have helped a woman solve the violent haunting of her new house. And they have helped the anti-christ destroy the Great Gate controlling the flow of magic between worlds, subverting the Apocalypse and ushering in a new age of supernatural freedom.

Yeah, about that last one. Turns out supernatural freedom means freedom for lots of things to wreak havoc, and one powerful faction is determined to fulfill an ancient prophesy that would upheave the continent of North America—literally.

Luckily, Jill has a crack team on the job. There’s Clara Nordstern, the imposing stoic swordswoman with uncertain and terrifying powers. There’s Selene Shields, newly returned from a trans-infernal crossing. There’s Ariel Freeman, the minister-turned-exorcist whose sunny exterior hides a complex history. There is Lansing, vampire and legal expert, there is Marcus, a demi-god, and there is Tamerlain who has five different bodies. There is Frosty the Welsh hellhound, a ghost who works reception, a goblin tech expert and Albatross, the great Calamity who has opened a hostel across from MCSIR.

The rising crisis will test them all in different ways as old powers clash and dark secrets erupt in The Sound of Wings, the fourth wheel in the Driving Arcana saga.
Following Wheel 3, Hope in the Forest of Despair, Wheel 4 contains the novellas: “Apocalypse Paused,” “Mi Cuerpo, Tu Cuerpo,” “White Noise,” “A Bloody Breeze,” “Ghost Ocean,” “The Sound of Wings,” “Under the Midnight Sun,” “Loki is Alive and Well and Living in New Orleans,” “Beyond Ragnorök,” and the complementary short story “Wish for Something Wild.”

The Adventures of Bouragner Felpz

In a world filled with magic…

…young orphan Corianne Birch is steadfastly ordinary. But when she is adopted by her godfather, the flamboyant magician Bouragner Felpz, Corianne finds herself entangled in adventures ranging from the mysterious to the macabre. Confronted by living shadows, capricious fairies, friendly necromancers and strange ghosts, Corianne must come to terms with her own peculiar brand of magic, as well as her enigmatic guardian—who is, like many things in her world, more than he appears.

Lucena in the House of Madgrin

Heliopause Productions is proud to present:

Lucena in the House of Madgrin

Lucena Clarian Ashmoor has never hatched a feathered serpent from an egg. She has never befriended a sombulus—a monster that looks like a giant spider, eats darkness, and likes reading books. She has never ridden a magic horse. She has spent all her life with relatives who would prefer she were elsewhere, and so sent her away to the nastiest school imaginable. There she has been bullied, and told so many times that she was dumb and fat and useless that she almost came to believe it. She has never been popular, and never done anything remotely heroic.

All this changes the night a vampire attacks her school and Lucena is tumbled into a world wider, darker, more magical and more mysterious than any she could have imagined. Here she will find the forgotten egg, meet the shade-eating spider, ride the black mare with coal-fire eyes, fight vampires, dance with fairies, and find—in time—that she might be a hero after all.

In her starred review on Independent Book Review, Melissa Suggitt calls Lucena “a richly imaginative journey.”

And, “The artwork does more than decorate the narrative; it deepens the gothic atmosphere, capturing the eerie elegance of Madgrin and the dreamlike quality of the house. These visual moments feel like glimpses into a strange fairy tale manuscript, reinforcing the novel’s storybook quality.”
